Antoni Feliks Nowakowski (January 12, 1799 - July 2, 1878) came from the Lublin province. He was the son of Jakub, a landowner, and Joanna, née Stawiarska, owners of the Sieciechow estate. He was born in the estates belonging to the parish in Opole Lubelskie - his birth was recorded in the books for the villages of Dębina, Ciepielówka, Jankowa and Grobla. Judging from the erroneously preserved Latin inscription on the canvas, from September 10, 1812 to July 31, 1816 he studied at the Collegium Nobilium in Warsaw (on August 29 at the Great Convent of the Piarist Fathers in Żoliborz he passed the oral examination for maturity for academic studies as Antoni Nowakowski s. Jakub from Sieciechów). He lived in Warsaw at Mostowa Street, Piwna Street No. 114 and Franciszkańska Street No. 1806, living off his own property. In 1819 he married Judge Kordula Kijewska (d. 1832), daughter of Franciszek and Teresa née Kobylnicka. His wife's death certificate lists him as an assessor of the Municipal Office of the City of Warsaw and his son's baptismal certificate from 1833 as an assessor of the Police Court of the City of Warsaw - at least since 1826. Franciszek lived at 1908 Twarda Street No. . In 1840, in another late son's baptismal certificate - Franciszek is Inspector General of the Treasury residing at 950 Żabia St. He had two sons, Antoni Konstanty Emilian (b. 1820 in Lublin) and Edward Stefan Franciszek Jakub (b. 1826 in Warsaw - d. 1901). Franciszek reached the rank of Court Counselor and Head of the former Government Administration of Tabaczny Revenue in the Kingdom of Poland. He later retired and died after a serious illness. The portrait was probably painted on the occasion of the graduation of the Collegium Nobilium.
