Pastel, crayon, paper, 62x47 cm, signed and dated in pencil l. d.: Wlad Jarocki 1910.
Wladyslaw Jarocki's fascination with the Hutsul region began during his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, where he first studied in the studio of Jozef Mehoffer and then Leon Wyczółkowski. In 1904, together with Fryderyk Pautsch and Kazimierz Sichulski, they traveled to the Eastern Carpathians; the works created at that time were shown in 1905 at an exhibition at the Cracow Society of Friends of Fine Arts. The artist returned to the Hutsul theme many times over the following years.
