Silver ; Victoria (1837-1901); Silver Prize Medal, Adolphe Braun & Cie was the company formed by the pioneering French photographer Adolphe Braun (1811-1877). The business was established in 1853, taking pictures for designs for wallpaper and fabric, winning a medal at the 1855 Paris Exposition Universelle. He expanded to stereopticans and by 1859 had produced his first art-historical inventory. His was one of only two photographic firms invited to document the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869. In 1883 his company secured an exclusive thirty-year contract to photograph the art objects at the Louvre.; UNC
