An interesting book that explores the work of Rafał Olbiński, born in 1943 in Kielce. The artist studied at the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology. He began creating his first posters while still a student. After graduating in 1970, he began collaborating with the magazine *Jazz Forum*. For the next ten years, he served as the magazine’s art director. One of the editors-in-chief who worked with him at the time recalled Rafał Olbiński as follows: “Rafał designed the covers; he’d be given a theme, present a single proposal—but it was always good, so it wasn’t up for discussion.”
At the same time, Rafał Olbiński also took on other commissions: he designed album covers for the Muza, Pronit, and Tonpress labels and created posters advertising jazz festivals such as Jazz Jamboree, Złota Tarka, and the Lublin Jazz Vocalists’ Festival.
In 1981, the artist emigrated to Paris and then to the United States. In New York, he began collaborating with the magazine “Psychology Today.” His first cover design appeared as early as March 1982. Since then, Rafał Olbiński’s designs have appeared on the front pages of numerous periodicals around the world, including *The New York Times*, *Newsweek*, *Business Week*, *Der Spiegel*, *Time*, *Charaktery*, *Playboy*, and *Wprost*.
From the late 1980s, Rafał Olbiński taught at Temple University and the School of Visual Arts. There, he taught courses in graphic design, typography, poster design, and illustration.
